Carbonate Crush and Cloud follows pathways of capitalism into the ocean through material metaphors drawn from historical and contemporary research. The installation is part of an extended body of work that connects the Dutch Royal Family, their profits from the East India Company (VOC), and routes of the Atlantic Slave Trade to their legacies in the present as global logistics supply chains, the carbon cycle within climate crisis, and scientific bathymetric mappings of the underwater Puy des Folles volcanic mountain ridge.
